AREA OF EXPERTISE

Throughout my time at Charon Investigations, LLC, my ability to find relevant information, locations, criminal histories, and phone numbers of both subjects we are investigating, as well as locating witnesses for our criminal clients, is my specialty. As an example of this expertise, I like to tell this story.

I was involved in a domestic case where our clients were interested in locating a former girlfriend of their daughter’s fiancé. I had absolutely no information except for the woman's first name. After only a few short hours, I had both located the person and I also had a lengthy phone conversation with her. The information was crucial in the case and it set my client’s mind at ease. This is only one example, but I have repeated this over and over in different cases.

My second area of expertise is my work on CSC cases. I have conducted several of these investigations and they are difficult to investigate. Often, they involve accusers who are children. These investigations are very sensitive and they must be handled accordingly. Our accused clients are usually under an immense amount of stress and their families likewise. Although I do have empathy for these clients, I have learned not to become vested in their situation. My job is to find the truth and if the truth implicates my client, so be it. Learning to be apathetic at the conclusion of an investigation is something all investigators must be able to do to avoid “burnout” and overwhelming stress. CSC cases often require me to take advantage of this skill.

BACKGROUND CHECKS

We are often hired to conduct background checks for various clients, but there are things anyone can do from home that does not require the additional charges of an investigator performing these tasks. Many of the below tools are either free or require a very small charge.

1. Michigan Department of Corrections ICHAT Criminal Check: This website is operated by the Michigan State Police and allows anyone to look up the criminal records of any person of interest. Each search costs $10.00 regardless if a police record is found or not.

2. Offender Tracking Information Systems (OTIS): This website is operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections and is a searchable database of all people who served time in prison for any felony. They usually involve prison identification photos of active inmates, inactive inmates and parolees. These searches are at no cost.

3. Family Watchdog:  This website displays the sex offender database. This website also shows pictures of the offender, list of what they were convicted of, and their location on maps. This is also a free check available to the general public.

MIRANDA WARNINGS AND THE FIFTH AMENDMENT

The Miranda Warning is a very important right that all Americans have. This right is protected by the United States Constitution’s 5th Amendment. I am passionate about this right because so few of our clients exercise this right and end up implicating themselves in crimes. All people detained should know these rights and exercise them AT ALL COSTS. If you are ever arrested, DO NOT speak with the police without legal counsel. I have seen the tools police officers use during interrogations when detainees are not “lawyered up,” and detainees WILL BE outsmarted. These rights should be exercised even if you know you are not guilty of a crime.

MY THANKS

I hope you have enjoyed this website and it has given you the opportunity to “meet” a real investigator. I am passionate about my field and defending my clients’ rights. Although this webpage is not designed to give legal advice, it is designed to help people to become informed about investigations and their own rights. Although the majority of my work is conducted in Western Michigan, my employer is licensed throughout the entire State of Michigan and can investigate outside of Michigan if the case originates in Michigan. This is a small list of Attorneys/ Law Firms I have worked for and highly suggest.
